Mental Health NDIS Occupational Therapy
The NDIS is designed to assist individuals experiencing mental health difficulties with supports to enable them to life a meaningful life. Psycho-social disability is the term the NDIS uses when describing a disability that may arise from a mental health issue.
As it is distinct from other disabilities, there is an NDIS psycho-social disability pathway designed to assist individuals test their eligibility to enter the scheme. Occupational therapists play an important role in supporting individuals with psycho-social disabilities navigate the NDIS. Mental health trained occupational therapists provide functional assessments and reports at all stages of the NDIS journey- from testing eligibility, plan approval, and annual plan reviews.
Occupational therapists help individuals with psycho-social disabilities improve their lives by examining at the 6 domains of one's life: mobility, self-care, self-management, social interaction, communication and learning and provide detailed reports and interventions aimed at improving an individuals quality of life in those domains.
The NDIS provides capacity building supports that includes funding allied health assessments from occupational therapists to help determine the type of supports are necessary to address the functional impact a disability has on ones life.
